About Kelsey Mammen, LPC

Trauma, Grief, and Equine-Assisted Therapist in North Longmont, Colorado

I grew up in Carson City, Nevada, surrounded by horses. From a young age, being in their presence felt like safety. They were steady, honest, and grounding in a way that made sense to my nervous system long before I had language for it.

Over the past eighteen years, I have worked and volunteered in equine-assisted programs and eventually pursued a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Equine-Assisted Mental Health through Prescott College. What began as a personal safe place became a professional calling.

Today, I provide trauma-informed therapy for children, adolescents, and adults both in person in North Longmont, Colorado and via telehealth in Colorado, Wyoming, and Tennessee.

My Approach

Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and paced with care.

I specialize in working with clients who are navigating sudden loss, complex trauma, dissociation, anxiety, and attachment wounds. Many of my clients feel stuck in shock, overwhelmed by grief, or disconnected from themselves and others.

My work focuses on helping your nervous system find regulation so that connection and healing can begin.

I integrate evidence-based and experiential approaches, including EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting, equine-assisted therapy, and experiential play therapy. For some clients, this work happens in the therapy office. For others, it unfolds in partnership with horses.

No matter the setting, the goal is the same: to help you move from survival into steadiness.

Why Grief and Sudden Loss Matter to Me

Grief has shaped my life in profound ways.

During graduate school, I lost two close friends to suicide. Over the years, I also experienced the sudden loss of beloved animals and, most recently, my younger sister to a drug overdose.

These losses have deeply influenced both who I am and how I practice. While I do not center my story in your therapy, I bring a lived understanding of shock, grief, and rebuilding a life after unexpected loss.

I believe there is hope after sudden loss. I have seen healing happen, both personally and professionally.

My Training

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with advanced training in trauma treatment.

My training includes EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting through Level 3 with AT interweaves, equine-assisted mental health specialization, and experiential play therapy. I am also a PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

I remain committed to ongoing education so I can provide thoughtful, effective care to the clients I serve.

Outside of the Therapy Room

When I am not working, you will likely find me with horses or dogs, reading, traveling, or raising guide dog puppies for the blind.

Spending time with animals and in nature helps me stay connected and grounded. From that place, I am better able to show up fully for the work I do with clients.
